Episode 1.1: This Ain't Your Mama's Project Based Learning

Are you a teacher?  Maybe you’re a veteran teacher.  Perhaps you’re a brand new teacher. Maybe you are in the middle of your career.  Wherever you are in your career, are you looking for a way to shake up your instruction? To energize your classes and fire up your students with some authentic project based activities, but don’t know exactly where to start?

That’s where Project Based Awesome can help. We are two teachers, Erin Dickey and Chris Butler, who started working and planning together for our Language Arts classes and stumbled on what we think is one the best ways for students to learn.

In this, the first episode, we discuss what Project Based Awesome is, what it is not, why it worked for us and our students, and why we think it will work for you.

Some things Erin and Chris discuss in this episode:

  • Our background in education and personal tidbits

  • What is Project Based Awesome? (5:46)

  • Project Based Learning sounded awesome... until I tried to do it (7:47)

  • How Project Based Awesome came to reality in our classes (9:00)

  • Integrating technology into lessons with Project Based Awesome rather than “doing technology” (14:15)

  • Project based learning? I don’t really know what that is (16:42)

  • So, why not just use the regular old project based learning? Why do we prefer Project Based Awesome and its style of teaching and learning? (19:45)

Until next time...peace.
